Why Bother? Time Line 2018...

July 31st 2008 23:22
It is getting to the point that pills are miracle cures for what ails you. Why bother writing about healthy habits when a cure all pill comes out? If you choose not to live a healthy lifestyle, fear not, a pill that will make a couch potato healthy comes out.

That's right! A pill
that not only gives the benefits of exercise, but can prove healthier than exercise when put against the active group. Of course keep in mind that the pill was only tested on mice. Humans can't produce over 10 children at one gestation period!

Either way, I am skeptical of this pill that gives a couch potato the benefits of exercise. Pretty soon you can live as unhealthy as you want and all you have to do is pop a magical pill. Have we seriously become this lazy? A pill that cures everything cannot exist. Maybe this is just a placebo that makes you spend money on stupidity.

...to be continued in the future...

All Good In Moderation

July 16th 2008 23:19
How many times have we heard studies that something that is bad for you suddenly becomes good for you in moderation? Alcohol, coffee, you get the point. In moderation good. In extreme bad. Maybe not everything is bad if taken in moderation.

There are debates about if egg consumption is good or bad. It is often associated as being bad for your heart. It is loaded with cholesterol. Let me tell you about my egg consumption. A dozen may last over three weeks. I eat 2 when I do have eggs for breakfast...or any other time. Some eggs today also come with Omega-3. Am I doing it right? Perhaps, but the egg does have health benefits.

A new study may change our views on eggs. From article:
Among more than 21,000 male study participants, an intake of up to six eggs weekly did not increase mortality. However, those who ate seven or more eggs weekly were 23 percent more likely to die during the 20-year study. Another long-term study, which followed men and women for 16 years, also showed no association between egg consumption and either heart disease or mortality.

I once read somewhere that if you eat one egg a day for six days, an equivalent of soy should be consumed on the seventh day. You know my thoughts about soy, but even in moderation I believe it is beneficial. Unfortunately soy is in many, many everyday foods.

The Downside of Yogurt

July 13th 2008 19:40
In my entry about yogurt, I said Dannon was one that made the criteria of what constitutes a healthy yogurt. This based on the article about what makes a healthy yogurt. I never mentioned Activia and I want that noted. Store brands that meet the requirements are just as good.

I believe that yogurt has health benefits but that that may vary among different individuals. I am proof that it does regulate the digestive system to an extent. It's benefits are both good for men and women but ads seem to target women. Activia gets questioned over whether its self-proclaimed health benefits are real. The benefits of yogurt are real but greed makes us overdose on a good thing. Maybe some don't need it everyday and you can't beat the weight loss and calcium benefits!

Stick to basics rather than buying the more expensive and hyped brands of yogurt. It is still great for energy and body building. It even seems to be tolerable by the lactose intolerant. The benefits seem to outweigh the negatives!

The Wonders of Yogurt

July 7th 2008 15:02
It seems that we have discovered a new way to cure what ails you. It's called yogurt.

Before I go on, ALWAYS consult your physician on all prblems and disorders before you self-diagnose and write a prescription for you. Continued problems can't be 'cured' by starting some sort of healthy regiment. Keep in mind that if you are lactose-intolerant, for example, yogurt may have the reverse affect

Tofu Dementia

July 5th 2008 23:16
I stated my opinion on soy and tofu many times before. I believe it's overblown and not as healthy as they claim. It might have health benefits but overconsumption can lead to health problems. I don't think we need estrogen on a daily, or weekly basis and should be used in moderation. Unfortunately, soy is in many foods and beverages. Some that we consume daily. Many are labelled as healthy.

Now comes another possible downside of soy and tofu. I once discussed how an aquaintance consumes tofu and soy products to the extreme. My theory is that these products could possibly lead to man-boobs. That remains to be proven, but don't rule it out

I have a friend who is really into all this holistic healing magical formula for what ails you. Prostate cancer runs in his family, so rather than going through the embarrassing method of checking it, he finds holistic gurus that have an answer for what ails you without checking what needs to be checked. Call me crazy, but this sounds like a disasterous situation waiting to happen.

Over the years, I have known people that have good health insurance but refuse to see a doctor on a regular basis. They rely on the Emergency Room if a problem gets out of hand. Unfortunately, this isn't as rare as we would like it to be. It is very common! People hate or fear conventional doctors and some are outright cynical towards them. So they seek the less intrusive variety, and at times are prone to self-diagnosis. An acquaintance claimed he had arthritis, but found out too late it was a full-blown cancer that had spread throughout his body

Help Wanted

June 15th 2008 21:05
In the coming posts I plan to discuss Men Issues since I am more of an expert. These issues include men's health, men's grooming, diet, nutrition, etc. I plan to deal with issues that are male related.

I am looking for female writers on the same topics for women, that have a health blog here at Orble. All I will do is link to stories and topics relating to women's issues according to what I am writing about on the men's side. Men's diet, for example, might be different than women when it comes to nutrition. Exercises, grooming, etc., are different in most cases for men

Living Off The Land

June 10th 2008 23:02
Somebody stop me but I have been a big believer of living off the land for decades. My father once said that each season bears its fruits and man can live off the land because of it. We lived in an agricultural area at the time and only consumed fruits and vegetables in their season. This was along the Mediterranean and I believe this is why Mediterraneans are healthy and live long lives.

I know I've written about this somewhere in this blog. I believe that fruits and vegetables that grow in your area serve a purpose to you moreso than food that is from far-away. In other words, northerners don't need tropical or citrus fruits that doesn't grow where they live. You get the main concept

Unhealthiest Drinks

June 2nd 2008 15:07
Is bottled water healthier than tap water? The answer is NO. Municipal water is regulated moreso than bottled variety. This isn't to say that there is anything wrong with bottled water, but sometimes you'd be better off saving your money.

I use to love soda and other carbonated beverages so I enjoy drinking club soda or seltzer water, PLAIN not fruity! Sometimes I'll add a Crystal Light or similar product to regular tap water. As a rule, I never buy bottled plain water
