Aspartame Update
February 9th 2007 16:35
In the post "Diet Sodas Cause Weight Gain? Yeah, Right!" I let everyone know that I thought the aspartame-obesity link was a myth. However, I just keep reading things about people losing weight after giving up diet soda. A good online source is Peer Trainer. I haven't seen any results after a week, but I heard it takes a few weeks to really notice a difference.
Unfortunately, I did have one Diet Coke today from our apartment's vending machine. After drinking green tea for a week it was surprisingly delicious, but an hour after drinking it I noticed a strange "high" that left me feeling very nervous and jumpy. So, it almost wasn't worth it.
When Matt and I were shopping at Earth Fare, I found some flavored water (not sweetened) that was so good that I wished I'd gotten a whole case instead of one. If you want to try it, it's called Hint, and comes in various flavors like mint, pear, and pomegranate (I've tried all of them and my favorite is pear). The tag line is "Drink water, not sugar." The pear flavor tastes naturally sweet, so you don't really need any extra sweeteners.
I have noticed that I craved carbs less this week. I urge anyone to make the switch. You really will notice a difference if you can get over the initial withdrawals.
