Atkins Diet Beats Out Three Others

March 8th 2007 00:38
I'm sure by now everyone has read about the Atkins diet coming out on top for weight loss in women. The study was released around 4 yesterday and it has been blowing up in the media!
In case you are interested, the study was 12 months long, investigating the diets (along w/ Atkins) : The Zone, Ornish and LEARN (a typical government recommended diet high in carbs and low in fat). The weight lost over the course of the year was highest w/ Atkins (10 lbs lost). The other losses were more modest 3-5 lbs.
Now, obviously this is good for Atkins supporters...however it is discouraging to see that the best ANY of these women did was a 10 lb loss - come on, they had a whole year! Of course these are averages - I'm sure some women lost more.

Apparently, for the first 8 weeks the women were coached by a nutritionist, and they went astray when left to do it on their own. Such a shame - I wonder if there was any yo-yoing going on, making the net loss lower.

On a side note - today I was picking up a prescription at our local drugstore - and I was really craving sugar free candy (that's not OK on induction but I had been craving it every day since I started this). I went and picked a couple packages of Russell Stover's candy and then headed to the pharmacy checkout.
The woman in front of us was enormous - apple shaped and her pants were all riding up and bunched together. I was like, Is that going to be me someday if I keep doing this?
I told Matt to put the candy back and go grab me some sf green tea (Arizona).
I feel so much better! So far no sweets whatsoever!

Atkins is flawed because you are subject to carb craving. That's because you never get a break. Read Natural Hormonal Enhancement at extique.com. This book contains a superior system in which carb eating is done in a managed manner.

I believe that's only during induction. You get to up your carbs gradually as you go towards maintenance. Obviously you just can't have candy and stuff...
