Breakthrough:Vitamin D and Autism
June 18th 2009 21:09
Autism seems to be an increasing problem for children and their families. Although there are no current links to cause, scientist are focusing on a Vitamin D deficiency. The link is focusing on Somali immigrants that have seen an increase in the condition when they migrated from Somalia to colder and cloudier climates. As with any other breaking study this one has so many variables as to why this is.
I think the argument that Muslim women are covered doesn't hold water because their exposure to the sun is still more significant than northern hemisphere women. The other arguments presented in the article can still be questioned in that they are insignificant.
Either way this is a move in the right direction in determining what causes autism. I never believed actress Jenny McCarthy's claim that childhood vaccines are the cause. The lack of vaccinations may be more devastating than autism if we were to have an outbreak. We are already seeing an increase in whooping cough when vaccines are refused.
