Get Your Jolt With Caffeine-Infused Donuts
January 30th 2007 17:27
It looks as though you can soon find bagels or donuts at your local pastry shop that have been infused with caffeine. If coffee, tea or soda doesn't do it for you, soon there will be the Buzz Donut and the Buzzed Bagel, invented by molecular biologist Robert Bohannon. The caffeine in them is the equivalent of one or two cups of coffee.
Apparently it was a trick getting the ground up coffee beans not to taste bitter (You think?) but Bohannon worked with flavor experts to successfully mask the taste.
While some folks might find this a yummy way to get their morning caffeine, be on the lookout for plenty of added sugar and trans fats. America really doesn't need another processed novelty food that will just make us even fatter...but, it's your call. Personally, I'd rather get my caffeine through calorie-free Diet Pepsi. It may be full of chemicals, but at least it won't give you heart disease.
