Fat Burning Supplement - FucoThin?
March 14th 2007 22:42
I posted an article awhile back on Diet-Blog about a recent study done with brown seaweed and mice. A component in brown seaweed called fucoxanthin, which gives the seaweed its color, was responsible for making mice lose a considerable amount of belly fat.
However, the compound by itself will most likely not be available in pill form for at least 3-5 years.
That doesn't stop the diet pill industry from trying to capitalize it.
So I was reading this month's issue of Fitness and found an ad for something called "Slimquick Extreme" which boasted to contain fucoxanthin and reduce body fat by 10 percent.
Now if the researchers themselves can't put it in pill form, how is Slimquick supposed to?
I did some research on this and happened upon a new diet pill being sold on Amazon right now called "Fucothin." It is just brown seaweed extract (containing 5 mg fucoxanthin) and pomegranate oil. Unfortunately I can't find any reviews on it so far, but it did intrigue me. Would ingesting enough of this "extract" have the potential to burn belly fat as seen in the mice? It's possible that a very high concentration was used, making 5 mg practically worthless (typically, studies use large doses of supplements rather than smaller).
Another question I have is - if they isolated this component of the brown seaweed for mice (which they did) why are they claiming a pill for humans would be so far in the future? Seems to me that they could just put the damn extract in a pill and get some human studies on it. Yeah, yeah, I know it's not that simple...
So if anyone has tried Fucothin, or has heard of it, please post here
I am going to wait and see what kind of reviews it gets on Amazon.

It would seem we would be trading one bad thing for an equally if not worse bad thing.

I believe some may be sensitive to sweeteners. However I gave up all sweeteners for over a month and didn't lose an ounce, didn't feel better or notice any difference.
I don't believe I am sensitive to them.

I am also confused why there is not more media coverage of this. I would love to see a review of the product.
Did you read the human study that was done? It was a double-blind placebo study that showed significant results in favor?
Will FucoTHIN be useful in its pill form? I don't know.
But I bought it and will use it this month.

Drink LOTS of water and avoid OTC meds to mask symptoms.
