Ode To The Egg
October 10th 2008 23:25
Perhaps nothing has gotten much bad publicity as the egg. It is believed to raise cholesterol levels and has become a breakfast villain. Perhaps the villains are the bacon, sausage and ham that is also consumed at breakfast. Also more than a couple of eggs a day MIGHT raise the level.
But eggs are slowly being considered a 'health' food in that they contains nutrients that can help do the body good. Eggs may be healthier than some other foods we consume. Research seems to favor the egg for a variety of health benefits.
They may reduce your risk of cancer because one large egg contains 30% of your Recommended Daily Allowence of choline.
Eggs contain lutein and zeaxanthin which are good for the eyes and vision.
They can actually help you lose weight was a real shock to me. Just eat a two-egg breakfast at least 5 times a week. I'm going to try this so I'll get back to you!
Can help repair muscles after a workout.
Aren't these reasons enough to eat more eggs? I usually eat the pasteurized because they are the cheapest and in today's economy, well you get it. I do occasionally buy the Omega-3 enhanced because I can't eat tuna and salmon, but I do take fishoil and get O-3 from other sources.
Everybody is different...keep that in mind!

The egg debate will always be around, and two 5 times a week does seem excessive but I think it depends on the individual, age, degree of activity, medical conditions etc.
I like the idea of 'ode to the egg' why not put up a real one under poetry, That could be fun.

I am doing an experiment on myself with the yogurt, too, and will write about the results soon.
I also would say, in my own opinion, that one egg might suffice!
Poetry is not my forte, so I'll hold out awhile! lol

Eggs do serve well for diets, they really satisfy the appetite, one with your breakfast, after your cereal should prove helpful.
Unfortunately with all diets once you stop them you're inclined to put back on what you've lost plus some.
Exercise, such as walking, and a sensible, nutrient rich diet with plenty of vegetables and fruit, and wholemeal products to balance the blood sugar levels usually does the trick.
Let us know how you go, signals.
