Is Saturated Fat Really Bad For You?
February 18th 2007 16:54
Hey guys, first of all...sorry for no posts for two days. I've had trouble accessing my blog, maybe something wrong with my computer. Anyway it's up and running now and there shouldn't be any more problems.
So, what about saturated fat? Some bodybuilders say there's nothing wrong with it. I also have never forgotten the study (studies?) that came out stating that low-carb is as good for your heart as low-fat. Well, if you are eating fewer carbs, you might be taking in more fat just from what's available to you - cheeses, creams, butter, meat...unless you're a chicken-and-veggies kind of person.
I personally think a low-fat diet is much worse than low-carb. When you're looking to cut fat, there are so many "diet" products (full of chemicals!) that may be low in fat, but make up for it with excess sugar and salt for "flavor." It concerns me that if someone's doctor told them to go low-fat, they would buy these products. I believe processed food is more of an enemy to us than fat.
I was pretty interested in this, and so I asked my nutritionist - her response was that saturated fat will give you heart disease, have no more than 10 percent of your daily calories from it, and low-carb diets are NOT heart healthy. When I've seen her in the past, my diet plans were full of skim milk, fat-free yogurt, chicken, veggies, etc. Doesn't sound too appetizing huh? Plus I was always allowed to eat Pop-Tarts, which I now would never bring into my kitchen!
Anyone's opinion on this would be welcome...it's quite a controversial issue these days!

Body builders are probably not the best source of nutritional information for most people as few things they do are likely to mimic our lives.
Trans-fats should be avoided as they are a known carcinogen (meaning they cause cancer) but saturated fats found in cheese and meat are a necesary evil.
Remember when you don't give your body any fat at all it will crave it. When you give your body too much fat you store it.
When your diet is balanced you will be trim and fit and fill of energy.
The goal is to satisfy your body with it's fuel, it should taste good and leave you feeling that you can conquer the day.
