Chantix Warning
May 25th 2008 21:39
The key to stop smoking is that you REALLY have to want to. I know people who tried everything from cold turkey to accupuncture to patch to pill to hypnotism, etc., and have gone back to smoking. That is a sad fact. Unless you want to quit, you are doomed to fail and hurt your wallet worse than if you kept smoking.
Now comes Chantix that offers more hope than anything else so far. Thing is it comes with a bunch of side affects such as nightmares, gas, etc. The site notes that:
Some patients have reported changes in behavior, agitation, depressed mood, suicidal thoughts or actions when attempting to quit smoking while taking CHANTIX or after stopping CHANTIX.
Of course you have to tell your doctor if you experience this. Funny if it were an illegal substance we would be told that the drug keeps us from making rational decisions. Yet on Chantix you're suppose to be aware of having suicidal thoughts. On illegal substances we would not be able to rationalize these thoughts and I believe the same risks come from legal drugs that lead to endangering your life.
The people I talked to quit Chantix because the nightmares were vivid, intense, and scary. I always believed that this drug was having a profound affect on the subconscious as the will to quit was fighting the will to smoke. Like I said and will repeat it: YOU HAVE TO WANT TO QUIT. I was up to 3 packs a day and quit cold turkey and it has been over 10 years now!
This week the FAA ordered pilots not to use the drug. Now they are linking it to traffic accidents. Now it seems like people are getting the message and Chantix is under fire while Glaxo offers a new drug to quit.
I would proceed with caution with any miracle pill that is suppose to help you quit smoking. Again you have to WANT to quit!
