Obesity Rates Will Soar Over Coming Decades - up to 100 percent??

March 3rd 2007 19:15
Currently, around 2 in every 3 Americans is overweight or obese. Horrifying statistics, no? There has been media coverage galore on this hot topic - more suggestions on how to lose weight and stay healthy than you can shake a stick at - as well as studies upon studies showing how we are not doing enough to keep ourselves and today's kids healthy.
I recently heard that in around 40 years from now, 100 percent of America's kids will be overweight and by 2058 (or so) 100 percent of AMERICA will be overweight. Every single person!!! Is that mindblowing or is it just me?
The government's attempts to "control" obesity, as well as various health organizations, have failed miserably. As the months and years go by, we're fatter than ever.

I just don't get why the food companies, restaurants, etc refuse to do a complete overhaul of sorts - start serving smaller portions (wouldn't that actually save money? Less food, less money you spend) and taxing junk food and sugary sodas. No, I don't mean a few cents' tax, I mean enough of a switch so that the healthy items were easier to buy than all that disgusting sugary crap.
I will admit that I recently had a BAD craving for sugar (I usually take chromium for this but I forgot) after eating a white-bread sandwich and Matt and I bought a tray of pink-frosted brownies and three candy bars. Know how much we payed for these? A little over four dollars for the entire lot!
It's appalling how easy it is to get cheap, processed, high-fructose corn syrup and trans fat laden junk! Many people even buy "diet" products boasting less fat that still contain these ingredients. Packaged diet food is the worst stuff you can get. All the extra fat and sugar will make up for any less fat you consume - plus they never satisfy you.

I'll end my rant here. If anyone has any comments about this, please leave them - postiive or negative!

Claire ...

While Hollywood exists? ...

While the Fashion Industry exists?

While the Armed Forces exist?

While the Olympics exist?

Etc, etc, etc ...

100% of Americans will never be obese ...

Modern statistics and modern surveys are about as accurate as Gorge W Bush's golf swing ... *
