Optimism and Overall Health

Can optimism have an affect on your overall health? Yes it can! Scientists have developed ways to measure optimism by dispositional optimism and explanatory style.

Dispositional optimism depends on positive expectations for one's future. Explanatory style is based on how a person explains good or bad news.

Optimism can help cardiac patients' heart health. It can help hypertention. It seems to help in overall health with laughter being a big boost to optimism. Studies also say that optimism boosts longetivity!


I am somebody who prepares for the worst and hopes for the best. I don't see myself as a total pessimist but I know that I am not a total optimist.

Optimism and a positive attitude actually can lead to a healthy outlook for the future.
