Personal Health Journal 1

April 13th 2010 17:10
As I wrote about here, This is about my personal health journal. If it helps you then it has served its purpose!I

'm having my yearly physical done and it is coming up with things I wish I never knew about. I get a call from my doctor's office and the nurse at the other end says, "Signals, Dr. XXXXX got the results of the cat-scan and they found a nodule on your lung. The Dr. wants you to get another cat-scan next year and possibly see aPulmonologist."

After hearing that statement that caught me completely by surprise it was as if time stood still and I couldn't recall what happened next. I remember going on my faithful computer and looking up what a lung nodule is. Basically a nodule is a 'spot' on your lung that may be cancerous. I needed to have a consultation with my doctor about so many tests that I had to have done.

So I needed another CT Scan in a year because of the nodule. This after I had just heard that a CT Scan can cause cancer due to the radiation!

There is always a fear of the unknown and that is our downfall. I had a CT Scan 5 years ago and they found scarred lung tissue. My doctor wandered if I was exposed to asbestos. In my line of work I could have been so answered 'possibly'!

So I went in for the consultation and vented my concerns to my doctor. He took the time to explain things to me. The original 'scarred tissue' remained the same but there was a new nodule and that is why he reccomended the CT Scan in a year. After I voiced my concern about CT Scans and cancer, he pointed out if I would rather find out too late that I do have lung cancer???

He said he does not think it is cancerous but it is better to be safe than sorry. CT Scans can cause cancer but that does not mean it does. He then told me of new technology and advancements in fighting cancer. Ladies and gentlemen, we have clearly advanced in our fight against cancer. Meet da Vinci Surgical System where surgeries have become less invasive!

To be continued!
