Sleep Overrated?
July 12th 2009 21:04
According to one study, sleeping 8 hours a night might not be a good thing. We heard that people who don't get enough sleep may increase their death rate. Seems that the opposite may be true. The new average is 6.5 hours a night to be optimal for health and well-being. Even as little as 5 hours is OK!
Death rate increases with more than 7 and less than 4 hours a night and also increased if the subject took sleeping pills. This is good news for me because I have a weird sleep pattern with anywhere from 4-9 hours of sleep. I also see sleeplessness increase when I'm feeling blue or depressed.
As with any scientific discovery that sees both side of the argument, perhaps more study needs to be done on this.

But I always thought too much sleep sucked tho - what was that song? - I'll sleep when I'm dead!
Hope some further studies confirm it.
