Spanx for tummy control

Talking to my mom about the wedding, she told me I'd have to wear a "body skin" under my dress. I asked, why, do I need to lose weight? She said, "No, everyone has to wear one! It creates a smooth line."
Well, I had heard about these panties/girdle things before, but never actually tried them. I did a little researching on Amazon and saw one I liked called Higher Power, that goes down your thighs and up to right below your chest.
However I read one review where someone said they constantly rolled up. But she also said she could wear a size smaller when she had them on. Maybe wearing clothes that are too small is the problem? Or do they really have that much shrinking power? Interesting!
I was concerned to read about a "front flap," I'm assuming that's to go to the bathroom, but really, it doesn't seem too practical. I guess I wouldn't buy the Higher Power kind after all. I can easily imagine peeing all over myself.
I did buy a corset one time - after reading online about people wearing them to get 23 inch waists. What happened though, is that I ordered a size too small, and I got this bunching effect right below and above where the corset ended. Plus, it was summer and it was stifling! Never again!
My worry would be that the Spanx would do the same thing. After all their sizes are based on weight, ranging from A to G, I think...which might make fitter a little tougher if you are near the beginning or the end of one size. Plus they're pretty expensive. I will need a “smooth line” on my wedding day though, so perhaps I will order some of these.
Anyone used these? What did you think of them? Let me know in the comments.
